Week Notes #1
Week Notes #1
04/27/2025
šļø // April 20 - 27 2025
It's been a great week. My mother-in-law visited from Wisconsin. My spouse got some really good news for our move. Since my lay off on April 10th, 2025, I've made some movement applying for jobs and talking to people. This entire process has made me realize I should talk to more people, even when I'm employed and without a care in the world. Having a remote job for three years has made me forgotten.
Some Highlights
š Today marks a one year anniversary for transfer day for our baby. 9 months she was a frozen embryo, and now a wonderful near-four-month old. It's the star of our life. I'm so happy science has made it a possibility for us to have a baby.
šŖ 13 conversations and found 3 jobs. All in the quest of my restart after being laid off. As a note, I won't be putting an exact number of jobs I apply to, but only the number I find that I think would be good. Added some good resources to my resource doc, including a local volunteer-run radio station in Madison that looks great. I also attended one Zoom talk for the Stony Brook Podcast Incubator where I heard podcast professionals talking about the industry and the craft. Very useful!
š I made a new website ā and launched this blog. I hope this will clear more space to do more LinkedIn posts, comments, and syndicate to Substack. I'm still feeling out how much I want to use social media while also knowing it's a strong.
ā¤ļø Lots of quality time with the fam. Some walks. Took baby to her first library visit.
āļø Writing
None to speak of. But I'm hoping to get a proposal under way and get my new draft (draft #4) finished soon. I've been feeling the urge to write more fiction, but also stay in journalism. It's a twin dance of eels in my head almost all the time.
š Reading
Power of the Dog by Thomas Savage. H/t to my good friend Taylor Brorby. The book is hitting me in the gut. I keep thinking how it relates to the culture and media's conversation about masculinity.
šŗ Watching
Andor and When no one is Watching and The Last of Us. I also peak in on the NBA playoffs: Nuggets and Clippers & Timberwolves and Lakers.
